Aim:How do Odysseus' actions in "The Cyclops"support or refule his epic character?
In the beginning of the class, Ms.Peterson start to describe about what we are going to do for homework. Ms.Peterson start to talk about our cyclops vs Odysseus virtual debate homework. Ms.Peterson tells us of how are we doing the virtual debate and we are giving a comment to at least one classmate when we are finished with our own virtual debate homework. Then, Ms.Peterson start to describe our project that is due on 6/2. So we are making a postcard for The Odyssey. Now, we have a whole class discussion of based on our understanding of the term "Xenia"(the ancient Greek concept of hospitality)of how do we believe this attribute or behavior is to exemplify? Why? One of the classmates said that in the old world since the gods like to disguise themselves and being a guest to the house. But now we are not going to invite strangers into our house. Another classmate adds on that it is weird to have someone that you did not know in your house. As we gets into the end of the discussion Ms. Peterson saids that in this time it is ok for inviting guests that you know or go to someone else's house but not to invite strangers into the house. Next, Ms. Peterson has another class discussion about the weakness of heros. One of the classmates talked about Superman's weakness. Then, Ms. Peterson starts to give other examples of weakness of other heros. In addition, we did spirit read about Homeric simile (elaborate comparisons consisting of many lines, between two different objects using “like”, “as”, “so”or “just so”. It is a comparison made between something unfamiliar or strange to the audience and something that is more familiar to them.), we also read about foreshadowing (tells about what is going to happen in the future) and hubris (Greek term meaning excessive pride). Then Ms.Peterson tells us about a tragic flaw ( a trait that leads to a character’s downfall).
Now, Ms.Peterson tells us using the questions in the slides to refer back to “The cyclops”that we are going to read and on the next slides Ms.Peterson gave us enrichments on the next slide of the questions so we have a better understanding of the reading that we are reading and to visualize “The cyclops”.

At the end, Ms.Peterson leads the reading of “The cyclops” and some of my classmates read some of the paragraphs.
Reflection
I learned about Odysseus’s adventure to the island where the cyclops lived. Also I learned about Homeric simile, sieved, and hubris. I learned about this because I need the information for my future postcard project. Also it is needed for a test after we are done with the book “The Odyssey”. The words that I learned today as Ms.Peterson told our whole class that it is needed for sophomore year. I would use what I learned to make a postcard. Also using the knowledge that I gain from this lesson to be successful on my test when this unit is done.
